Alex Callaway is an award-winning contemporary realist painter based in the UK. Self-taught, his early career was spent developing a distinct brand of Pop Surrealism whilst working as an illustrator.
Preferring to paint directly from life in natural light, his still lifes are intended to be as much an immersive, contemplative experience as they are a celebration and appreciation of our world. In essence his paintings attempt to examine the character and physical presence of natural phenomena, and celebrate the beauty found within the sublime and transitory nature of life.
Alex’s work has been selected for many prestigious open exhibitions and competitions, receiving a number of prizes including the Arcadia Contemporary Award (ARC Salon 2016), and has appeared in American Art Collector and International Artist Magazine. In 2016 he was elected an Associate of the RBSA (Royal Birmingham Society of Artists).
