As early as at the age of 17 he discovered his love for painting and started out as a pavement artist in Berlin. With a box of coloured chalk he set out for the aesthetic centres of Europe: Vienna, Venice and Bologna. There he studied the old masters of the arts and made the classic still life his artistic ideal. "Everywhere, I've met artists with whom I've worked together and from whom I've learned."
Nowadays, Alfred Baumann lives in Bockhorn in the German region Friesland. Every weekend he visits the aesthetic centre of the region, Dangast, with his pictures. The arrangements of clay vases, bowls and jugs as well as fruits from his own garden - apples, rose hips, and currants - create a particularly beautiful ambiance. However, Alfred Baumann emphasizes: "The most important thing to me is to show light and shade". With regard to this he gets his inspiration from the great master of art Rembrandt: "It's fantastic how Rembrandt painted light into the dark."
